Preparing the Environment

To access DCS instances through a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), create a VPC and configure security groups and subnets for it before using DCS. A VPC provides an isolated virtual network environment which you can configure and manage. Using VPCs enhances cloud resource security and simplifies network deployment.

Once you have created a VPC, you can use it for all DCS instances you subsequently create.

Creating a VPC

  1. Log in to the management console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner of the management console and select a region and a project.
  3. Click Service List, and choose Network > Virtual Private Cloud to launch the VPC console.
  4. On the Dashboard page, click Apply for VPC.
  5. Apply for a VPC as prompted, retaining the default values unless otherwise required. For details on how to create a VPC, see the Virtual Private Cloud User Guide.

After a VPC is created, a subnet is also created in the subnet. If the VPC needs more subnets, go to 6. Otherwise, go to 7.

  6. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Subnet and then click Create Subnet in the upper right corner of the displayed page. Create a subnet as prompted, retaining the default values unless otherwise required.

For details on how to create a subnet, see the Virtual Private Cloud User Guide.

  7. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Security Groups and then click Create Security Group in the upper right corner of the displayed page. Create a security group as prompted, retaining the default values unless otherwise required.

For details on how to create a subnet, see the Virtual Private Cloud User Guide.
