Description

Huawei Cloud DNS server addresses are entered by default. The DNS servers can resolve both public and private domain names.
You can configure private zones to enable ECSs in a VPC to access each other using private domain names. Additionally, you can use the private DNS servers to directly access the private IP addresses of cloud services, such as OBS and SMN. Compared with the access through the Internet, this access features high performance and low latency.
If you want to use other public DNS servers for resolution, you can change the default DNS server addresses. If you use other public DNS servers, private domain name resolution is unavailable.
You can also click Reset on the right of this parameter DNS Server Address to restore the DNS server addresses to the default value.

How Do I Change Default DNS Servers of an ECS to Huawei Cloud Private DNS Servers?

ECSs use private DNS servers for domain name resolution in VPCs. The private DNS servers do not affect the domain name resolution for the ECSs accessing the Internet. Additionally, you can use the private DNS servers to directly access the private IP addresses of cloud services, such as OBS and SMN. Using this method to access Huawei Cloud services is faster and involves less latency than accessing them over the Internet.

Before private domain names were available, VPC subnets used a public DNS server (114.114.114.114). To allow ECSs in these VPCs to access private domain names, you can change the public DNS server to the private DNS servers configured for the VPC subnets. Learn more

How Do I Change DNS Server Addresses for an ECS?

After DNS server addresses of a VPC subnet are changed on the console, the changes are not on the ECSs in the subnet immediately. There are two ways to apply the changes:

Restart the ECS OS. The ECS will then obtain the new DNS server addresses from the DHCP server.

Restarting the OS will interrupt services on the ECS. Perform this operation during off-peak hours.
Run the dhclient command to update the new DNS server addresses in the ECS. This method does not interrupt services. Learn more
