Warming Up IP Addresses or Domain Names Through Email Messages
Most email providers (such as Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail) analyze all traffic from new senders to ensure that the traffic is not malicious. A new sender is the one who sends an email from a new IP address.
IP or domain name warm-up is a process of adding activities to new IP addresses every week, while building a positive sending reputation for email providers and target users.
It is recommended that you focus on active users when starting a warm-up. Then, you can add old data and inactive users to the subsequent part of the warm-up.
This section describes a warm-up process for new senders. That is, new senders need to start from sending a small batch of emails.
Benefits
- A high-quality email will build a good reputation for senders. Internet service providers (ISPs), mailbox providers, often respond to the good reputation by placing more emails (instead of spam filters) in their inboxes and increasing the number of emails they are willing to receive.
- Low-quality emails (such as invalid and unsubscribed emails) will build a negative reputation among email providers. This reduces the number of emails in the inbox and the willingness to receive more emails.
Precautions
To optimize IP address or domain name warm-up and improve transferability, pay attention to the following:
- Clear the email database by deleting invalid emails.
- Send emails only to registered or selected recipients.
- Implement email verification process during registration.
- Do not capture the purchase list on the website.
- Ensure that the email body is secure and compliant.
Manual Warm-up
For traffic sent through the console, SMTP, or APIs, manually warm up the IP addresses or domain names.
To ensure the optimal reach rate, this product provides a 14-day warm-up plan. You can send emails based on the number of emails sent per day specified by Table 1.
If additional warm-up is required, add 40% of the previous day's traffic (sent emails).
- In the first two weeks, ensure that the target users are active users. In the third and fourth weeks, ensure that the target users are those who have participated in the activity in the past 60 days.
- During the first 45 days of manual warm-up, do not target users who have not opened or clicked emails in the past 90 days.
If you plan to send more than 10 million emails every month, contact Huawei Cloud operations personnel for your warm-up plan and other suggestions.
