Setting Purchase Preferences
Scenarios
You can configure purchase parameters, such as the billing mode, backup, EIP, and login mode, and save them as custom defaults. They will be automatically applied the next time you purchase ECSs in custom config mode.
With the purchase preference settings, you can plan the billing mode, data backup policy, public network access policy, and login mode for ECSs in advance based on service requirements. This helps you avoid security risks during ECS purchase and improve purchase efficiency.
Constraints
- The purchase preference settings take effect in all regions.
- If no purchase preference settings are configured, the parameters set on the Custom Config tab will be used.
- If you select Auto assign for EIP but EIPs are sold out, this setting does not take effect.
- Auto-renew is available and takes effect only when Billing Mode is set to Yearly/Monthly.
- The purchase preference settings take effect only in the custom config mode.
- After the purchase preference settings are configured, you need to refresh the page for the settings to take effect.
Procedure
- Go to the Buy ECS page.
- In the upper right corner of the page, click Purchase Preferences. Figure 1 Purchase preference entry

Description
Reference
Billing Mode
- Yearly/Monthly: a prepaid billing mode. You need to pay in advance before using the service.
Yearly/monthly ECSs are billed by the required duration specified in the order.
- Pay-per-use: a postpaid billing mode. You pay as you go and just pay for what you use.
Pay-per-use ECSs are billed by the second and settled by the hour.
- Spot pricing: a postpaid billing mode. You pay as you go and just pay for what you use. Spot pricing offers a discount compared to the pay-per-use billing.
In the spot pricing billing mode, you can select Spot or Spot block for Spot Type. Spot ECSs and Spot block ECSs are billed by the second and settled by the hour.
Backup
You can enable backup if you want to back up ECSs or EVS disks. Backup can help you restore data in case anything happens to your ECSs. To ensure data security, you are advised to enable this function.
After backup is enabled, the backup-related parameters comply with the policies specified on the Custom Config tab. Existing cloud backup vaults are used by default. If you do not have one, purchase a vault first.
EIP
An EIP is a static public IP address bound to an ECS in a VPC. Using the EIP, the ECS provides services externally.
You can select an EIP assigning policy based on service requirements.
- Auto assign: The system automatically assigns an EIP with a dedicated bandwidth to the ECS. You can set the bandwidth as required.
- Not required: The ECS cannot communicate with the Internet. It can only be used to deploy services or clusters in private networks.
Login Mode
Select the ECS login credential.
- Key pair: A key pair will be used as the credential for logging in to an ECS.
You can select an existing key pair or click Create Key Pair to create a desired one.
- Password: A username and its initial password you set will be used for ECS login authentication.
For Linux ECSs, set the initial password for user root. For Windows ECSs, set the initial password for user Administrator.
Auto-renew
This parameter is displayed only when Billing Mode is set to Yearly/Monthly.
After auto-renew is enabled, the service will renew automatically when it expires, and your account will be billed automatically. Make sure you have a valid payment method configured.
- Yearly/Monthly: a prepaid billing mode. You need to pay in advance before using the service.
- (Optional) To restore the default settings of purchase preferences, click Restore Defaults in the lower part of the panel.
- Click OK to complete the purchase preference settings.
