What Do I Do If "EXT4-fs error" Is Displayed When the Find Command Is Executed in Linux?

Symptom

"EXT4-fs error" is displayed when the find command is executed in Linux.

Possible Causes

The file system of the disk partition is damaged.

Precautions

Repairing file systems may cause data loss. Back up data in advance.

Solution

This section uses the ext4 file system as an example. The procedure for repairing other file systems may be different.

  1. Log in to the ECS.
  2. Run the following command to unmount the partition (assume that the mount point of xvdb1 is /mnt/sdc):

    umount /mnt/sdc

  3. Run the following command to restore the damaged file system:

    fsck -y /mnt/sdc

The restoration takes a long time. Do not perform other operations during this period.

  4. After the disk is restored, run the following command to mount the partition again:

    mount -a

  5. Run the following command to restart the ECS:

    reboot
