Associating a Resource Group with an Alarm Template

You can create a resource group and associate it with an alarm template to create alarm rules in batches. This improves alarm rule configuration efficiency.

If you have many cloud resources, you are advised to create resource groups by service application, create alarm templates, and associate resource groups with the alarm templates to create alarm rules in batches. This makes it easier and faster to create and maintain alarm rules. After the association, alarm rules for resources in this group will be generated. Any changes to the templates will automatically update the alarm policies.

Billing

Alarm notifications sent by SMN will be billed based on their frequency and message length. For details, see Product Pricing Details.

Prerequisites

You have created a resource group.

Constraints

You can associate only custom metric alarm templates.

Associating Custom Metric Alarm Templates

The new page of associating alarm templates with resource groups is now available in some regions. This feature will expand to other regions soon. For details, check the console.

  1. Log in to the Cloud Eye console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Resource Groups.
  1. Locate the target resource group and click Associate Custom Metric Alarm Template in the Operation column.
  2. Check whether the selected region supports the new page of associating resource groups with custom alarm templates.
    • If yes, perform 5 to 8.
    • If no, perform 9 to 12.
  3. On the displayed page, enable Associate Custom Metric Alarm Template. In the Custom Metric Alarm Templates drop-down list, select an alarm template.
  4. Determine whether the alarm rules will inherit the notification type from the resource group.
    • If Inherit Notification Settings from the Resource Group is set to Yes, all alarm rules created through the association will inherit the notification type from the resource group. If a resource group has no notification type configured, the alarm rules will not have one either.
    • If it is set to No, all alarm rules created through the association will not inherit the notification type from the resource group. Alarm Notifications in new alarm rules will be disabled, and the associated alarm rules will use existing alarm notification settings.

  5. Click OK to associate the custom metric alarm template.

This operation requires asynchronous creation, modification, and deletion of alarm rules, which takes 5 to 10 minutes. If there are multiple association tasks, this process takes longer.

  6. In the Modified dialog box, view the names of updated alarm rules and click OK.

After the template is associated, the template appears in the Associated Custom Metric Alarm Template column of the resource group list. Related alarm rules are generated in the alarm rule list.

  7. On the displayed page, select an alarm template.
  8. Configure alarm notification parameters based on Table 7.

  9. Select an enterprise project.

    Parameter

    Description

    Enterprise Project

Enterprise project that the alarm rules belong to. Only users with the enterprise project permissions can manage the alarm rule. For details about how to create an enterprise project, see Creating an Enterprise Project.

  10. Click OK.

Associating an alarm template with a resource group triggers asynchronous operations such as creating, updating, and deleting alarm rules. This process typically lasts for 5 to 10 minutes but may take longer if there are multiple association tasks.

(New Edition) Disabling the Associate Custom Metric Alarm Template Switch

After associating alarm templates with a resource group, you can disable the Associate Custom Metric Alarm Template switch to delete all alarm rules created using the templates for the resource group.

  1. Log in to the Cloud Eye console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Resource Groups.
  1. In the Operation column of the target resource group, click Associate Custom Metric Alarm Template.
  2. On the displayed page, disable the Associate Custom Metric Alarm Template switch.
  3. Click OK.

All alarm rules created using the template for the resource group will be deleted, but manually created alarm rules will be retained.

  4. In the Modified dialog box, view the names of deleted alarm rules and click OK.

The template name in the Associated Custom Metric Alarm Template column of the resource group will be cleared.
