Enabling Continue Backup If Vault Is Full
Scenarios
If a vault reaches its maximum capacity, periodic backups will fail, which disrupts service continuity and compromises compliance audits. Enabling Continue Backup If Vault Is Full allows backups to proceed even when capacity is exceeded, ensuring continuous protection of key data and meeting enterprise cloud security standards.
How It Works
Only yearly/monthly vaults can have Continue Backup If Vault Is Full enabled. If this function is enabled, the excess capacity is billed per use. After Continue Backup If Vault Is Full is enabled for a yearly/monthly vault, a resource ID that contains the vault ID and ends with postpayx (x indicates the sequence number, for example, 0, 1, or 2) is generated in the bill. This resource ID is a virtual resource ID used to record the billing for the excessive capacity.
You can enable Continue Backup If Vault Is Full when purchasing a vault, or enable it on the vault details page after purchasing a vault.
Constraints
- If you have enabled Continue Backup If Vault Is Full, you cannot disable it when the vault capacity usage is greater than or equal to 100%. To disable this function, expand the vault capacity or reduce the vault capacity usage to less than 100% and then disable it.
- If your pay-per-use resources are deleted due to arrears, the Continue Backup If Vault Is Full function of the yearly/monthly vault will be automatically disabled. After the renewal, you need to manually enable the function if you still want to use it.
- If a yearly/monthly vault has expired and is frozen, the Continue Backup If Vault Is Full function will be automatically disabled. After the vault is renewed and unfrozen, the function will be automatically enabled.
- If you want to manually disable the Continue Backup If Vault Is Full function, ensure that the used capacity of the vault is not greater than the total capacity of the vault. Otherwise, the function cannot be disabled.
Enabling Continue Backup If Vault Is Full When Purchasing a Backup Vault
The following uses a cloud server backup vault as an example.
- Go to the Buy Server Backup Vault page.
- Specify mandatory parameters for the server backup vault. For parameters not included in the following table, retain the default values.
Complete Basic Settings and select a Protection Type.
Parameter
Example Value
Description
Billing Mode
Yearly/Monthly
- Pay-per-use bills you for actual usage and lets you add or delete vaults anytime. Fees are deducted from your account.
- Yearly/Monthly is a prepaid billing mode. You are billed based on the subscription duration you specify. This mode provides lower prices and is ideal when the resource use duration is predictable.
The Continue Backup If Vault Is Full function is not available for pay-per-use vaults.
Region
CN-Hong Kong
Resources in different regions cannot communicate with each other over an intranet. Select the region closest to you to achieve low latency.
Once the vault is created, its region cannot be changed.
Protection Type
Backup
- Backup: A cloud server backup vault stores server backups.
- Replication (cross-region): A server replication vault stores replicas of server backups. If you select Replication (cross-region), you do not need to select a server.
For example, if you want to back up a server, select Backup for the vault protection type. If you want to replicate backups of a server from one region to another, select Replication (cross-region) for the vault in this other region.
Backup Data Redundancy
Single-AZ
- Single-AZ: Backup data is stored in a single AZ to reduce costs.
- Multi-AZ: Backup data is stored in multiple AZs for higher reliability. If one AZ becomes unavailable, backup data can still be accessed from other AZs.
The backup data redundancy policy cannot be changed after a vault is purchased. Select a policy that best suits your service needs.
Configure Resources to Back Up, Backup Capacity, and Backup Policy.

Parameter
Example Value
Description
Resources to Back Up
Skip
- Configure: Select the servers to be associated.
- Skip: If no server is available, you can purchase the vault first and associate servers later.
Backup Capacity
100G
Specify the vault capacity. The capacity ranges from 10 GB to 10,485,760 GB.
Properly plan the vault capacity, which must be at least as large as the servers you want to back up. Also, if automatic association is enabled and a backup policy is applied to the vault, more capacity is required.
As the vault's used space grows, you can expand the vault capacity if it becomes insufficient.
Continue Backup If Vault Is Full
Enable
- If this function is enabled, resources can still be backed up even if the vault capacity reaches the upper limit. The excess vault capacity will be billed on a pay-per-use basis.
- If this function is disabled, resources will not be backed up after the vault capacity reaches the upper limit.
Auto Backup
Skip
- Configure: A backup policy can be applied to this vault. Resources associated with this vault will be automatically backed up based on the policy. You can select an existing backup policy or create a new one.
- If you select Skip, servers associated with this vault will not be automatically backed up until you apply a backup policy to the vault. If you need to automatically back up data periodically, you can create a policy and apply it to the vault. For details, see Policy Management.
Automatic Association
Skip
- If you select Configure, in the next backup period, CBR will automatically scan for all unprotected servers, associate them with the vault, and then perform backups.
- If you select Skip and need to enable automatic association later, see Associating Resources with a Vault.
Specify Enterprise Project and Advanced Settings.

Parameter
Example Value
Description
Enterprise Project
default
Add the vault to an existing enterprise project.
This parameter is only available for enterprise users who have enabled enterprise project management.
NOTE:If an IAM user has been assigned the CBR FullAccess policy but cannot view or select enterprise projects when creating a vault, the administrator must grant the CBR FullAccess policy for the enterprise project to the user group in the IAM console.
Vault Name
vault-d5dc
Specify the name of the vault to be created.
The name must contain 1 to 64 characters including digits, letters, underscores (_), or hyphens (-). You can also use the default name vault_xxxx.
Required Duration
- 1 month
- Deselect Auto Renewal
If you select yearly/monthly billing, specify the required duration, which ranges from 1 month to 5 years.
If you select Auto Renewal:
- Your monthly subscription will be renewed every month.
- Your yearly subscription will be renewed every year.
- Click Next.
- Click Submit. Confirm the order details and complete the payment.
- Go back to the Cloud Server Backups page. You can view the created vault in the vault list. The vault is in the Available state.
Go to the vault details page. In the Basic Information area, you can see that Continue Backup If Vault Is Full is enabled.

Enabling Continue Backup If Vault Is Full on the Vault Details Page
- Log in to the CBR console. Click
in the upper left corner and select a region. - Click the name of a specific vault to view vault details.
- In the Basic Information area, enable Continue Backup If Vault Is Full.

Disabling Continue Backup If Vault Is Full
- Log in to the CBR console. Click
in the upper left corner and select a region. - Click the name of a specific vault to view vault details.
- In the Basic Information area, disable Continue Backup If Vault Is Full.
