Using WinSCP to Transfer Files Between a Local Windows Computer and a Linux Server

Scenarios

WinSCP can be used to securely transfer files between local and remote computers. Compared with FTP, WinSCP allows you to use a username and password to access the server without any additional configuration on the server. To transfer a file from a local Windows computer to a Linux cloud server, WinSCP is commonly used. This section describes how to use WinSCP to upload files to or download files from a local Windows computer to a Linux cloud server (Linux FlexusL instance) running CentOS 7.2.

Prerequisites

  • The cloud server is running.

Procedure

  1. Download and install the WinSCP client on your local Windows computer. For details, see Downloading WinSCP.
  1. Install WinSCP as instructed.
  2. Start WinSCP.
