Managing Third-Party Devices

You can add application data audit devices, application data security gateways, database firewalls, database encryption devices, static database masking devices, and dynamic database masking devices to the list for alarm reporting and monitoring. After a device is taken offline, the system does not receive registration or heartbeat packets from the device. To restore the connection, perform the operations described in Bringing a Device Online.

How It Works

Figure 1 shows how DSC manages third-party devices.

Figure 1 How it works

Prerequisites

A third-party device has been purchased. For details about how to purchase and install a third-party device, contact technical support.

Managing Third-Party Devices

After purchasing a third-party device, you can connect it to DSC for management.

  1. Log in to the DSC console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region or project.
  3. Choose Third-Party Device Management > Device List. The Device List page is displayed.
  4. Click Add Device in the upper left corner of the device list. In the displayed Add Device dialog box, set parameters by referring to Table 1.

    Table 1 Device parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Name

You can define the device name.

The device name must meet the following requirements:

    • Only use letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
    • Have 4 to 255 characters.
    • The device name must be unique.

    Type

Choose a Device Type that you have deployed from the drop-down list. The options are:

    • Application data audit: This is a data security product on the web application side.
    • Application data security gateway: This provides a complete application security protection system.
    • Database firewall: This defends against malicious SQL attacks or operations at the data application layer.
    • Database encryption: This encrypts sensitive data and stores it using the gateway proxy encryption technology.
    • Static database masking: Mask sensitive data to ensure privacy and security while retaining the data structure and statistics features.
    • Dynamic database masking: Mask sensitive data in real time to ensure privacy and security while retaining the data structure and statistics features.

    Deployment

Select a Deployment Mode from the drop-down list box. The options are:
    • Stand-alone: one device.
    • Primary/standby: Two devices, one is the primary device, and the other is the standby device.
    • Cluster: multiple devices.

    VPC

Select the VPC of the deployed device from the drop-down list box.

    Subnet

Select a subnet where devices have been deployed from the drop-down list box.

    (Optional) Management Address

    • Enter the third-party device management address.
    • You can also click Edit to enter the management address after the device is added.

  5. Click OK.

Make an offline device send registration and heartbeat requests again. When the device is online, the DSC will receive these requests from the device. After a device goes online, you can perform SSO, editing, or configuration on the device in the device list.

Only offline devices can be brought online.

  1. Log in to the DSC console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region or project.
  3. Choose Third-Party Device Management > Device List. The Device List page is displayed.
  4. Select the device to be brought online and click Device Online in the upper left corner of the device list. If the device status is Normal, the device is brought online successfully.

You can take the device offline if you want to delete it from the device list or stop the DSC from receiving its registration and heartbeat requests from it. When the device is offline, the DSC will not accept any information from it. Offline devices cannot be logged in to, edited, or configured in the device list.

The device status is Abnormal, Normal, or Lost.

  1. Log in to the DSC console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region or project.
  3. Choose Third-Party Device Management > Device List. The Device List page is displayed.
  4. Select the device to be brought offline and click Device Offline in the upper left corner of the device list. If the device status is Offline, the device is brought offline successfully.

After a device is added to the device list, you can view the device status and manage the device by following the instructions provided in this section.

  1. Log in to the DSC console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region or project.
  3. Choose Third-Party Device Management > Device List. The Device List page is displayed.
  4. Table 2 describes the parameters on the Devices page. You can filter devices by Device Type, Deployment Mode, and Status.

    Table 2 Device list parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Name

You can click a device name to view device details.

When you add a device to the DSC device list, it gets a device ID. The device ID is a unique identifier that you can configure on the device page and use for registration and authentication.

    Device Type

    The options are as follows:

    • Application data audit: This is a data security product on the web application side.
    • Application data security gateway: This provides a complete application security protection system.
    • Database firewall: This defends against malicious SQL attacks or operations at the data application layer.
    • Database encryption: This encrypts sensitive data and stores it using the gateway proxy encryption technology.
    • Static database masking: Mask sensitive data to ensure privacy and security while retaining the data structure and statistics features.
    • Dynamic database masking: Mask sensitive data in real time to ensure privacy and security while retaining the data structure and statistics features.

    Deployment

The deployment modes are as follows:

    • Stand-alone: There is only one device.
    • Primary/standby: There are two devices, one primary device and one standby device.
    • Cluster: There are multiple devices.

    Management Address

After the device is added, click Edit to add the management device address.

    Status

    The device status can be:

    • Abnormal: If the device status is Abnormal, you can log in to the device and edit it in the Operation column.
    • Normal: If the device status is Normal, you can log in to and edit the device in SSO mode in the Operation column.
    • Offline: When the device status is Offline, you can bring the device online or delete the device in the Operation column.
    • New: When the device status is New, you can delete or edit the device in the Operation column.
    • Lost: If the device status is Lost, you can log in to the device and edit it in the Operation column.

    Updated At

Time when the device status is updated.
