Why Can't I Specify Whether to Migrate a Logical Volume When I Resize Disk Partitions in Linux?

  • Case 1: Logical volumes without mount points are migrated by default.
  • Case 2: Migrate is set to No and cannot be modified for a logical volume.

To migrate this logical volume, increase the volume group size to ensure that it is larger than the total logical volume size.

For details, see What Are the Rules for Resizing Volume Groups, Disks, and Partitions?

  • Case 3: In a Linux block-level migration, you can choose to migrate either all or none of the volume groups.

For a block-level migration of a Linux server using LVM, physical volumes and logical volumes cannot be resized.
