Risks of Using the Ubuntu 22.04 Image with a Specific Kernel Version

Released: Dec 22, 2025

Some nodes running Ubuntu 22.04 may experience kernel hangs, which can lead to node exceptions. For details, see the related community issue. To prevent service interruptions and improve the stability of your CCE clusters, check all Ubuntu 22.04 nodes as soon as possible and handle any affected nodes promptly.

Impact Scope

The affected Ubuntu 22.04 image is named CCE_images_Ubuntu22-Node-25.9.0-common-amd64-a9076b6a-20250913155915, and its kernel version is 5.15.0-152-generic.

To check the affected nodes:

  1. Log in to the CCE console and click the cluster name to access the cluster console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Nodes. On the displayed page, click the Nodes tab.
  3. Select OS Version in the search box and search for Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS.
  4. Click the node name to go to the ECS details page. If the image in the ECS Information area is CCE_images_Ubuntu22-Node-25.9.0-common-amd64-a9076b6a-20250913155915, this issue is involved.

If there are no Ubuntu 22.04 nodes using this image in your cluster, no further action is required.

Solution

To resolve this issue:

  • Create some new CCE nodes, migrate the service workloads from the risky nodes to the new nodes, and release the risky nodes after the services are running properly on the new nodes.
  • If there are enough nodes in the cluster, migrate the service workloads from risky nodes to other healthy nodes. After the services are running properly on the healthy nodes, reset the risky nodes.
  • The Ubuntu 22.04 image provided by CCE is not affected by this community issue. You can continue to use Ubuntu 22.04 when creating or resetting nodes.
  • You can use node drainage on the console to evict all workloads from the risky node. For details, see Draining a Node.
