How Is RDS Backup Data Billed?

All the RDS full and incremental backups are automatically stored in OBS buckets without occupying the storage of DB instances. RDS provides free backup space equal to the storage size of the instance you create.

The lifecycle of automated backups is the same as that of the instance. If you delete a DB instance, its automated backups are also deleted, but manual backups are not.

For RDS for MySQL instances, see Deleting a Manual Backup.

For RDS for PostgreSQL instances, see Deleting a Manual Backup.

For example, if you create a DB instance with 200 GB of storage, you can get an additional 200 GB of backup space and will only be billed for backups in excess of 200 GB. The first 200 GB of backup data is free. After the free backup space is used up, the additional space used will be billed on a pay-per-use basis.
