Accelerating Domain Name Configuration by Versioning

Scenarios

When you update your domain name configuration, you often need to verify updated settings in a controlled environment before a full network rollout. Without versioning and test environment deployment, updates could not be validated safely without risking live traffic. To address this, Huawei Cloud now provides an open test environment and configuration versioning, enabling you to create and validate new versions in a test environment before performing a progressive rollout to the entire network. Furthermore, you can quickly roll back to a previous version at any time if issues arise. These capabilities improve security and flexibility of configuration change management while ensuring service continuity and stability.

Constraints

Versioning is in restricted beta. To use this function, submit a service ticket.

Precautions

1. After versioning is enabled, domain configurations are managed by version. To update the live settings, you need to create a new version from the current version and redeploy the new version to the production environment.
2. By default, domain configuration updates via APIs are applied to the currently active version.
3. A maximum of 10 versions can be created.
4. Some configurations do not take effect in the test environment, including the service scope, service type, IPv6 addresses, usage cap, bandwidth alarm, IP access frequency limit, and origin server settings for domain names with Service Type set to Whole site.
5. Active versions cannot be deleted.
6. Versions that have been deployed to production cannot be modified but can be deleted. After a version is deleted, it can no longer be used for rollbacks.
7. Versioning cannot be enabled for domains that have been added to a cache sharing group.

Enabling Versioning

1. Log in to the CDN console.
2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
5. Enable versioning, read the pop-up message, and click OK.

Version Cloning

1. Log in to the CDN console.
2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
5. Below the version list, click Clone. The version cloning page is displayed.

6. Select an existing version based on which the new version is cloned, enter the description as required, and click OK.
   • A version number is automatically generated after the version is cloned.
   • A new version can be cloned only based on an existing version.
   • After a new version is created, it is not deployed to the production or test environment.

Managing Versions

• Modifying version configuration
  1. Log in to the CDN console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
  3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
  4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
  5. Click a version name in the Version column to go to the domain name details page. You can modify the settings of the domain name in the current version.
     • After the settings are modified, the modifications are automatically saved in the current version.
     • Versions that have been deployed in the production environment cannot be edited.
• Deploying a version
  1. Log in to the CDN console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
  3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
  4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
  5. Locate the target version, click Deploy to Production or Deploy to Test in the Operation column, and deploy the version.
     • Deploying this version will overwrite the previous version settings. Proceed with caution.

  6. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
• Changing a version
  1. Log in to the CDN console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
  3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
  4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
  5. To update the version for your production or test environment, click Change Version in the upper right corner of the corresponding module. Select the target version in the dialog box and click OK to apply it.

  6. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
• Deleting a version
  1. Log in to the CDN console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
  3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
  4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
  5. Locate the version to be deleted and click Delete in the Operation column.
  6. Confirm the version to be deleted and click OK.
     • Active versions cannot be deleted.
     • Deleted versions cannot be restored. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
• Viewing the version history
  1. Log in to the CDN console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
  3. In the domain list, click the target domain name.
  4. In the upper right corner of the details page, click Versioning.
  5. To view the version change history of the production or test environment, click Version History in the upper right corner of the corresponding module. A maximum of 20 versions can be viewed.
