Upgrading the Kernel Minor Version for a GeminiDB Dynamo-Compatible Instance

GeminiDB DynamoDB-Compatible instances can be upgraded by installing patches to improve performance, introduce new features, or fix bugs.

When a new patch version is released, you can upgrade your instance to the latest version at an appropriate time as needed.

If a new patch is released, you can click Upgrade Minor Version to upgrade your instance in the Compatible API column on the Instances page.

If the kernel version of your instance has potential risks, major defects, has expired, or has been brought offline, the system will notify you by SMS or email and you can submit an upgrade task during the maintenance window. After receiving a notification, verify that the maintenance window falls within off-peak hours. If you need to adjust the upgrade schedule, submit a service ticket on the console to contact the customer service.

A minor kernel version can be upgraded in either of the following ways:

  • Immediate upgrade: If Upgrade Minor Version is displayed in the Compatible API column on the Instances page as shown in Figure 1, you can manually upgrade the minor kernel version.
  • In maintenance window: The system upgrades the minor version through a scheduled task during the maintenance window you have specified. For details about how to change the maintenance window, see Setting a Maintenance Window for a GeminiDB DynamoDB-Compatible Instance.

Usage Notes

  • Upgrade your instance once there are new patches released.
  • If the database version is a risky version, the system prompts you to upgrade the database patch.
  • The instance will be restarted and services may be interrupted during the upgrade. The interruption duration depends on services, quantity of nodes, and the amount of service data. Upgrade your instance during off-peak hours.
  • When you upgrade a cluster, services may be interrupted a number of times equal to the number of nodes in the cluster plus one. Each interruption will last for no more than 60s and will only affect the services on that node. If your cluster has more than one node, the upgrade duration is as follows:

    600 + (N x 60) ≤ Total upgrade duration (s) ≤ 600 + (N x 120)

For example, if there are 9 nodes in a cluster instance, the upgrade duration is 19 to 28 minutes.

The upgrade duration of most instances is close to 600+ (N x 60). If there are too many tokens on a single node, the upgrade duration may be increased.
