Table 1 DDM functions

Horizontal sharding

After creating a distributed database, select a sharding key for it. DDM generates a sharding rule by the sharding key to horizontally shard data.

Scaling out

DDM expands storage capacity of databases by adding new RDS DB instances. Capacity expansion does not require application reconstruction, and expansion progress is displayed by the progress bar.

Distributed transactions

DDM provides four distributed transactions, including single-shard, best-effort commit, and eventual atomicity.

Data import and export

External data is imported to help you migrate databases to the cloud. Data and tables can be exported from schemas or logical tables.

SQL compatibility

DDM is compatible with the MySQL protocol and syntax. MySQL 5.6 and 5.7 are both supported.

Global sequence

DDM provides globally unique IDs to identify data such as unique keys and primary keys in distributed environments.

DDM supports globally unique, distributed, and ascending SNs, meeting requirements for primary keys, unique keys, or other specific scenarios of distributed databases.

Online monitoring

DDM helps you detect resource and performance bottlenecks by monitoring the read/write ratio and slow SQL queries.

DDM console

The DDM console enables you to manage and maintain DDM instances, schemas, logical tables, and sharding rules online.

Related Services

  • Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

DDM runs in a VPC and needs to use an IP address and bandwidth created by the VPC. The security group function of the VPC ensures access security of DDM instances.

  • Elastic Cloud Server (ECS)

After applying for a DDM instance, you need to connect to and use the DDM instance through ECSs.

  • RDS

After buying a DDM instance, you need to associate it with an RDS DB instance in the same VPC to implement distributed database computing and storage.

  • Cloud Eye

Cloud Eye is a secure, scalable, and unified monitoring solution provided by the public cloud. It monitors DDM service metrics and sends notifications whenever an alarm or event occurs.

  • Cloud Trace Service (CTS)

CTS provides records of operations on cloud service resources, allowing you to query, audit, and backtrack resource operation requests initiated from the management console as well as responses to the requests.
