Purchasing a Discount Package

GaussDB(DWS) also supports discount packages. You can make a one-off payment according to the purchased service duration. The service duration ranges from one month to three years. It is economical and recommended for long-term users.

  • No cluster will be automatically created after you purchase a discount package. Create a cluster on the GaussDB(DWS) management console by referring to Creating a Cluster.
  • Total capacity of the standard data warehouse discount package to be purchased = Number of nodes x Available storage space of each node x 2 (active + standby) x 24 hours x Duration (days). A month is considered as 30 days. If the capacity of a created cluster exceeds the discount package capacity, pay-per-use billing will apply.
  • Discount packages are reset every month. For example, if a user subscribes to a 100 GB annual package on October 1, the package is reset on November 1 and enters the next cycle, that is, from November 1 to December 1, until the annual package expires.
  • You cannot change the type of a purchased discount package. For example, you cannot change a monthly package to a yearly package. When you existing package is about to expire, you can purchase a package of another type.
  • If you have created a cluster and then buy a discount package that has the same region and node flavor as the cluster, the system automatically associates the package with the cluster.
  • After the discount package expires, you will be billed in pay-per-use mode if you continue to use the service. The cluster will not be released.
  • For discount packages, you will be notified of renewals 15 days, 7 days, 3 days, and 1 day before the expiration date.
  • For details about discount packages, see the GaussDB(DWS) pricing details.
  • If you have multiple clusters that have the same specifications as the discount package specifications, the discount package will be randomly associated with one of the clusters.
  • If you add nodes or expand the disk capacity, you need to purchase a new package for the new nodes or disks, or the new resources will be billed per use.
  • After you purchase a discount package and create a cluster, if you want to change the billing mode to yearly/monthly, the discount package will be associated with the cluster again. For details, see "From Pay-per-use to Yearly/Monthly" in Yearly/Monthly Billing.

This section describes how to purchase a GaussDB(DWS) discount package.

    Resource

    Product type. It can be:

    • Standard data warehouse: It can analyze hot and cold data and is highly cost-effective. Its storage and computing resources are not limited, and can be elastically scaled and billed per use. It is suitable for the converged analysis that requires integrated databases, warehouses, marts, and lakes. It is most suitable for OLAP workloads.
    • Stream data warehouse: It provides efficient time series computing and IoT analysis capabilities based on the standard data warehouse and supports correlation between real-time and historical data. The compression ratio can reach 40:1. It can be used for IoT real-time analysis.
    • Hybrid data warehouse: It provides high-concurrency, high-performance, and low-latency transaction processing capabilities at low costs based on large-scale data query and analysis capabilities. The data warehouse can be used to process HTAP hybrid loads, and can be deployed in standalone or cluster mode.
    NOTE:
    • A hybrid data warehouse can be deployed in cluster or standalone mode.
      • Cluster deployment: If the name of the selected node flavor contains h (for example, dwsx2.h.4xlarge.4.c6), the hybrid data warehouse can be deployed in cluster mode. You can deploy multiple nodes, scale nodes, and manage resource pools.
      • Standalone deployment: If the name of the selected node flavor contains h1 (for example, dwsx2.h1.xlarge.2.c6), the hybrid data warehouse only supports standalone deployment, which does not provide HA capabilities. The storage cost can be reduced by half. A standalone data warehouse can be restored by the automatic reconstruction of ECS, and its data reliability is ensured by the EVS multi-copy mechanism. It is less expensive than other specifications. It is a good choice for lightweight services.

    Standard

    Compute Resource

    It can be:

    • ESC: Scalable, reliable, and high-throughput virtual block storage is provided in a distributed architecture. This ensures that data can be quickly migrated and restored if any data replica is unavailable, preventing data from being lost because of a single hardware fault. Backup and restoration can be performed on ECSs and EVS disks. You can configure automatic backup policies for them.
    • BMS: BMS allows you to use dedicated compute resources, add servers to VPCs and security groups for network isolation, and integrate related components for server security. The BMSs running on the QingTian architecture can use EVS disks, which can be backed up for restoration. BMS interconnects with Dedicated Storage Service (DSS) to ensure the data security and reliability required by enterprise services.

    Node Flavor

Select the desired node type based on service requirements. The node type list displays the vCPUs, memory, storage, I/O, number of concurrent queues, and recommended application scenarios of each type. Item Concurrent Queues indicates the maximum number of concurrent jobs supported by the system, which is determined by the flavor you select.

    Hot storage

Available storage capacity of each node.

    NOTE:

The storage capacity you apply for has the necessary file system overhead, which includes index nodes and the space required for database running. The storage space must be an integer multiple of 100.

    -

    Purchase Quantity

Specify the number of nodes in the cluster.

If you are a first-time user, you are advised to select at least three nodes. If the hybrid data warehouse is deployed in a standalone mode, a single-node package can be selected.

If you are not a first-time user, select the number of nodes as required.

    3

    Total

Displays the total capacity of a cluster.

The storage capacity of each flavor is the actual database space used for storing data. The displayed storage capacity has deducted the disk space consumed by backups and RAIDs.

    -

Discount nodes are bound to specific regions and node flavors. You can enjoy the discount only if the discount package you purchased is in the same region and use the same flavor as the nodes that are currently run.

  5. If you select Hot Storage, configure the following parameters. The estimated price will be displayed at the bottom of the page. You can click Pricing details to view the charging details. The hot storage package can be used if the disk storage is increased.

  8. Confirm the order information and click Pay Now.
  9. Select a payment method and complete the payment as prompted.

After the payment is successful, the order takes effect about 5 minutes later. You can use the purchased package only after the order takes effect. You can choose Billing Center > My Orders in the upper right corner of the console to go to the My Orders page and view the order status.

No cluster will be automatically created after you purchase a discount package. If you have not created a cluster, go to the GaussDB(DWS) management console to create one. For details, see Creating a Cluster.

After the order takes effect, if you create a data warehouse cluster with the same flavor as the package cluster flavor you purchased, the cluster is automatically associated with the discount package. The nodes within the discount package range will not be charged during the validity period and the extra nodes will be charged on the pay-per-use basis.
