How Do I Use a Private Image Created from a General-Purpose First-Generation ECS to Create a General-Purpose Second-Generation ECS?
Scenarios
For general-purpose and memory-optimized ECSs, the second generation has a different virtualization architecture and driver type from the first generation. Therefore, you must optimize a private image created from a first-generation ECS before using it to create a second-generation ECS.
Procedure
The following operations use a general-purpose ECS as an example.
Method one: automatic image optimization
- Log in to the management console.
- Under Computing, click Image Management Service.
- On the Image Management Service page, click Private Images to display the image list.
- Automatically optimize the image. For details, see How Can I Optimize an Image?.
Only Linux images can be optimized automatically.
- Use the optimized private image to create a second-generation ECS.
Method two: manual image optimization
- Log in to the management console.
- Under Computing, click Image Management Service.
- On the Image Management Service page, click Private Images to display the image list.
- Use this image to create a first-generation ECS.
If first-generation ECSs have been sold out, use method 1.
- Optimize the image.
- For details about how to manually optimize a Windows private image, see Optimizing a Windows Private Image.
- For details about how to manually optimize a Linux private image, see Optimizing a Linux Private Image.
- Use the optimized general-purpose first-generation ECS to create a private image.
- Use the created private image to create a second-generation ECS.
